Why was Mobile Suit Gundam's opening and closing changed?

The OP shown on crunchyroll for the second half uses animation that is much more advanced than what was available at the time when Mobile Suit Gundam was made. Therefore, it's pretty clear that for whatever reason, the real second OP could not be licensed. Sometimes copyrights spoil things.
